The acquisition of Quinta da Torre was born from a dream of Anselmo Mendes, who harvested this land since he was a child and believed that this was the terroir of excellence for Alvarinho.
This estate is now a space dedicated to Wine Tourism, which is the perfect starting point for an immersive experience in the history of the sub-region of Monção and Melgaço and the idyllic stage to discover the wines produced under the mastery of Anselmo Mendes, “Mr. Alvarinho”. Here you will discover a house that is almost 600 years old, granaries made in wood and stone dating back to the 17th century and ancient olive trees. You can visit the Alvarinho Experiments Center, a wine cellar from where wines were shipped to England and Northern Europe, in the 16th century, and a rare “Garden” of White Grape Varieties from around the world. This is the ideal setting to enjoy a tasting of unique wines, full of identity and authenticity, surrounded by these 50 hectares (123 acres) of vineyards.

Let yourself be transported back to the times when Anselmo Mendes, inspired by his childhood dream and the vineyards planted on terraces, supported by granite walls, started his project on a small farm in Melgaço. Continue your journey between Loureiro from the Lima valley and Alvarinho from the Minho valley and go back to the 16th century when Monção red wines, produced from the region's indigenous grape varieties, became famous in England and Northern Europe. These are the wines that we now recreate, from our own vineyards, giving them an innovative, elegant and vibrant character.

Experimentation and innovation, in the vineyard and in the winery, have always been at the basis of Anselmo Mendes' work, resulting in unique and differentiating wines that changed an entire region. Let yourself be enveloped by the intensity of an Alvarinho with skin maceration to, then, enjoy the creaminess that barrel fermentation brings to this noble grape variety.
